Security Guidelines After receiving your SMARTELLER™ debit card Ensure that your card is signed on the signature strip, on the reverse side of your card immediately. Make a record of your card number located on the front side of your card, card account numbers and telephone numbers for reporting lost or stolen cards. Keep that list in a safe place. In case you lose your card - be sure to know the emergency telephone numbers in order to contact SMARTELLLER™ and report your card lost, stolen or damaged immediately. Protect your card from damage by keeping it in a safe place - don't allow it to be bent or scratched. Do NOT keep it together with your mobile phone.
When using your card Report lost or stolen cards to immediately. Protect your cards as if they were cash. Keep your cards in a safe place, do not leave them laying around. If at all possible, do not let your card out of your sight during a transaction, double check before leaving that you have your card back in your possession and that it is your card. Check transaction receipts and the purchase amount before you sign, keep the copies of transaction receipts and ATM receipts. Check your statement. Balance the purchase amounts against your transaction receipts. Before giving any card information over the telephone or internet, ensure that you are dealing with a reputable company. Do not release any personal information when you use your card, other than your identity document, which may be requested. Know who has access to your cards. If your card is borrowed by a family member (spouse, child, parent) with or without your knowledge, you are responsible for their purchase or cash withdrawal.
Your PIN - NEVER give your PIN number to ANYBODY. Destroy the PIN number advice slip after memorizing it.
- Memorise your PIN number - if you must write down your PIN number, do not keep it in your wallet, purse or on the card itself.
When using an ATM - If you see or find any signs that the ATM has been physically tampered with or strangely attached external fittings or loose wirings, report it to the bank and USE another ATM, DO NOT insert your card. Be aware of identity theft.
- Be aware of your surroundings and strangers - if the machine is poorly lit, or is in a hidden area, use another ATM.
- Do NOT accept assistance from strangers.
- Have your card ready - avoid having to find your card in your wallet or purse.
- Make sure that other people waiting the ATM can not see you enter your PIN number or the transaction amount you are requesting.
- Never count your cash while standing at the ATM. As soon as the ATM gives you your cash, immediately place cash, card and receipt in your wallet or purse.
- Press the cancel button at the ATM to cancel your transaction and leave immediately if you see anything suspicious.
Hold on to cards and receipts - After completing a transaction, remember to take your card and receipt.
- Do not leave your ATM receipt behind - take it with you and check against your monthly statements.
- When your card is stuck inside an ATM, be suspicious of anyone offering their help. Report the incident to the bank immediately either by visiting the branch where the ATM is located or through its telephone hotline.
